This fnely sculpted celestial nymph (surasundari)

displays a sensual and voluptuous body, symbol of
fertility and abundance, to her worshippers. She is
benevolent to the devoted, and at the same time protects
the temple where she was placed. The fuid and sensual
lines and subtle modelling of her body were well defned
and lauded by poets of ancient India.
