A MIRROR-BLACK-GLAZED VASE, MEIPING 清十八世紀 烏金釉梅瓶
18TH CENTURY
The vase is sturdily potted with high, rounded shoulders below a short, waisted
neck, and tapers towards the slightly fared foot. It is covered on the exterior 來源:
with a lustrous black glaze ending just above the foot rim. The interior and the

'Mirror-black' is mentioned by Père de'Entrecolles, who was at Jingdezhen in
1720, as a high temperature glaze coloured with low-grade Chinese cobalt
(an iron-manganese-cobalt mixture). See another mirror-black-glazed vase,
dated to the Kangxi period, from the collection of Professor E. T. Hall, sold at
Christie's London 7 June 2004, lot 193.
