The rounded sides rising from a short foot to an everted rim divided The vessel, supported on a gilt bronze foot, in the shape of a phoenix
into six petals, the interior decorated with pavilions in a lake scene, all with the head modelled in relief turned up to the left, and the tail
encircled by meandering lotus scrolls and flower sprays issuing from feathers wrapped around the edges of the vase.
pierced rocks atop the rim, the exterior with horses striding on top of 23cm (9in) high
waves, all reserved against a bright turquoise ground.
