A PINK CARNELIAN FIGURE OF A BUDDHIST LION
18th/19th century
The crouching animal with its head turned right showing its fangs in
a fierce expression, the bushy tail swept upwards onto its back, the
stone of a light pink colour with reddish russets.

The Chinese rectangular seal supporting a carving of a young man
holding onto a large lion seated beside him
the side signed and dated in Japanese, Showa hachinen, Shikai, 昭
和八年,心海, the seal inscribed Iwao 巖.

Dated Tongzhi wu chen in accordance with 1868 and of the period
One side carved with two ladies confronting a phoenix flying above
a peony in bloom, the other with an inscription in cursive script, the
seal face inscribed with the characters zhongxin du jing, fitted box.
