A FINE AND IMPOSING ‘LOTUS PETAL’-
MOLDED BLUE AND WHITE JAR AND
COVER
Kangxi
Of elegant baluster shape and molded with
three bands of graduated interlocking lotus petal
panels, brilliantly painted in a rich, vibrant blue
tones, the upper band with alternating panels
of ladies in boats gathering lotus, and rockwork
issuing a variety of flowers, the middle band with
alternating panels of ladies with children on a
terrace, and jardinieres of various flowers, and
the lower band with further alternating panels of
ladies playing musical instruments, and rockwork
issuing flowers, all placed between two diaper-
cell bands and a reserved floral scrolling band
at the foot and neck, the cover similarly painted
with panels enclosing ladies and children, and
jardinières with flowers, surmounted by a gilt
seated Buddhist lion.
