           Although this work shows strong affinities with that produced by
           known carvers from Iwami Province, the maker appears to be unknown.  It has been suggested that this netsuke is by Masanao of Izumo, the
                                                             work being somewhat in the style of Mitani Goho, although Shichida
                                                             Makoto, a native of Shimane Prefecture (formerly Iwami Province) and
                                                             author of numerous articles on Iwami netsuke, recorded that his signature
                                                             is generally engraved in a more cursive style.
