The current lot was a part of the Estate of Emilia Stella, whose great-
great grandfather was based in Beijing and Shanghai between 1850
and 1870, where he held a high diplomatic position. According to the
letter of provenance, it would have been at this time that he acquired
the important Chinese artworks in his collection.
