Tang Dynasty (618–907)
seated with forelegs outstretched and jaws open in a roaring attitude, the eyes fixed in a defiant
stare, the long tail folded over one hind leg, the mane carved as two tiers of thick curls, the flanks
smoothly polished, the pomegranate-red stone with traces of black pigment and remains of burial
earth.
