Southeast Asian
Ceramics from the
Collection of Dr
Philip Gould
Dr Philip Gould, art history professor
emeritus from Sarah Lawrence
College also taught art history at
Columbia University. He was a visiting
professor at Fordham University, Pratt
Institute, and Parsons Institute and
lectured at a number of prestigious
universities in Asia, including the
National Taiwan University, The
National University of Malaysia, and
Chulalongkorn in Bangkok.
Collecting came as an inevitable
byproduct of travel, through which
he charted the historic and stylistic
breadths of many categories. With
these materials and loans from
major museums Dr Gould organized
over forty exhibitions in the US and
abroad. The following selection of
Southeast Asian ceramics represents
particularly fine examples Dr. Gould
collected during his travels in Asia
between 1960 and 1976.
