A LARGE SANCAI-GLAZED POTTERY TRIPOD CENSER A RARE AND UNUSUAL SANCAI-GLAZED POTTERY
TANG DYNASTY (AD 618-907) EQUESTRIAN
The rounded body is raised on three paw feet and incised with double lines on TANG DYNASTY (AD 618-907)
the shoulder. The body is covered with irregular large splashes of green glaze Modeled as a courtier, the rider wears a headdress and green tunic and sits
surrounded by smaller splashes of amber glaze which streak unevenly below astride his steed with hands curled as if grasping reins. The horse stands
the amber-glazed, waisted neck and green-glazed rim. foursquare on a rectangular base with head turned slightly to the left and is
8æ in. (22.4 cm.) diam. splash-glazed in green, amber, and straw tones.
