The brush pot is carved in varying reliefs with a continuous scene
depicting a scholar reclining against a pine tree, approached by an 展覽:
attendant walking across a bridge towered by jagged mountains and a 香港美術館，《中國玉雕》，香港，1983年，圖錄頁284，圖264
pavilion on top. The white stone has a pale greenish tinge with some
russet inclusions. 本件玉雕筆筒屬「畫意」玉器。此類玉雕包括插屏、山子、筆筒等型制，
4√ in. (12.3 cm.) diam., box 具有類似繪畫的視覺效果。可參考故宮博物院藏其他「畫意」筆筒，

The brush pot belongs to a group of ‘pictorial style’ jade carvings which
have similar visual effect as paintings. See a Qing dynasty white jade
brush pot in the Palace Museum, Beijing, depicting an scholar sitting in a
pavilion, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace
Museum, Jadeware (III), Hong Kong, 1995 , no.167; a Qianlong period
spinach-green jade brush pot depicting the seven sages of bamboo grove,
also in the Palace Museum Beijing, ibid., no. 170.
