Qianlong period, circa 1740
Painted to the center with peacock feathers and coral in a vase
supported on an un-scrolled painting amidst flowering peony, below
cloud or pomegranate lappets at the border suspending flowers that
hang into the cavetto and decorated with peony and scrolls, the
reverses plain.

The combination of coral and peacock feathers, lingding huihuang,
forms the rebus ‘may you achieve the highest official rank’. Officials
of the first rank wore a coral knob and peacock feather on their hats.
