A MING BLUE AND WHITE JAR AND COVER
Wanli period, 1572-1625
The vase and cover are decorated in an underglaze blue typical of
the Wanli period, with ovoid reserves framed with double lines each
containing the depiction of a sage and attendant, the rest of the body
covered with a ground of scrolling vines, flowerheads and plantain
leaves, and around the waist of the vase, connecting the panels, are
small square panels of landscapes, the unusual cover finial of double
gourd shape.
