The present vessel is a replica of the important
Western Han dynasty silver and gold inlaid
bronze rhinoceros zun, excavated in 1963 from
Doumacun, Xingping, Shaanxi province, now
preserved in the National Museum of China,
Beijing.

the outer chamber cast in high relief with
two pairs of five-clawed dragons, each pair
contesting a ‘flaming pearl’ amidst cloud
scrolls, the top panel cast with a six-character
reign mark in high relief within a shaped
cartouche, together with the inner lock, key,
1600 and a later finial and toggles (6)
