A RARE PALE GREEN JADE ‘NINE-DRAGON’ CIRCULAR BOX clawed dragons striding amidst clouds in pursuit of flaming pearls, the
AND COVER present box demonstrates the exceptional craftsmanship achieved by
Mid-Qing Dynasty jade carvers during the mid-Qing period.
The domed cover crisply carved in low relief with a medallion enclosing
a large full-faced five-clawed dragon amidst whirling clouds, the Highly regarded for their intermediary position between heaven and
curving sides carved with a continuous band of four dragons, the box earth, dragons possessed supernatural powers that compared with
with a further four wreathing dragons around the exterior, the stone of those of the emperors. The nine-dragon motif refers to the nine
pale-green tone with some russet and cloudy white inclusions. mythological sons of the Dragon King, longsheng jiuzi 龍生九子.
