A CARVED DING ‘LOTUS’ BOWL
NORTHERN SONG DYNASTY (AD 967-1127)
The well-potted bowl has deep sides rising to the slightly everted rim, carved on the exterior with
overlapping lotus petals, and is covered below the unglazed rim with a glaze of ivory tone that falls in ‘tears’
of a darker tone. The interior of the foot and base are also glazed.
