A VERY RARE AND LARGE CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL AND
GILT-BRONZE ‘ALMS-BOWL’-SHAPED VESSEL
17th century
Impressively cast and raised on the shoulders of three gilt-bronze
figures, the tapered body with a broad rounded shoulder decorated
with sprays of lotus blossoms below a gilt band of lotus lappets to
the rim, the exterior decorated in multi-coloured enamels with six
four-clawed dragons amidst scrolling lotus and ruyi-head clouds
above heaped waves releasing splashes of foam at the feet of each
dragon, flanked by a pair of finely-cast handles in the form of a bat
grasping a ring, the base with five lotus blossoms.
