          A SILVER OCTAGONAL ‘PHOENIX’ CUP
          LATE TANG-LIAO DYNASTY, 9TH-12TH CENTURY

          The cup is fnely chased with a large phoenix standing amidst leafy   Washington, D.C., Smithsonian Institution, Chinese Gold & Silver in the
          scrolling foliage that continues around the sides between bands of   Carl Kempe Collection, 1954-55, cat. no. 104.
          saw-tooth pattern, all on a fne ring-punched ground. The foot is similarly
