A CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER BRUSH AND COVER
MING DYNASTY, 16TH CENTURY
The cylindrical shaft is finely carved through layers of cinnabar lacquer with two scholars
standing under wutong trees, one of them gazing at the moon. The cover is carved with
a further scholar beneath willow trees. All reserved on intricate diaper grounds. The end
of the shaft is carved with a wan emblem, while the end of the cover is carved with a
flowerhead.
