A JADE ‘PHOENIX’ PLAQUE
Warring States/Han dynasty or later
Of lithe S-form incised in an elaborate ground of curling patterns to
verso and recto, the avian head and beak arched forwards to nip at
perhaps a claw protruding from the remainder of the abstract scroll
comprising the curving body and bifurcated tail, the stone streaked
in layers of various yellow, green, and oatmeal hues, the latter areas
showing traces of minor degradation.
