A ZITAN ‘SEVEN SAGES’ BRUSHPOT
18th/19th century
Made from a single irregularly sectioned piece of finely-grained
dark wood, the exterior decorated in high relief with a finely carved
continuous scene of the ‘Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove’, each
sage engaged in various activities in a rocky landscape punctuated
with bamboo and pine trees by a body of water, all supported on a
recessed foot, the wood with a lustrous patina.
