PROVENANCE

Acquired by the 1990s.
Exceptionally fnely rendered with deeply carved features,
including heavily-lidded downcast eyes and a plump rosebud
mouth. Compare the sensitive modeling with a stucco head of
Buddha in the Tokyo National Museum (I. Kurita, Gandharan
Art II, The World of the Buddha, Tokyo, 2003, p.121, cat.no. 326).
