                Produced in the early Kangxi period,
                pictorial porcelain panels such as the
                present examples, allowed two dimensional
                decoration derived from painting to serve
                as three dimensional functional forms. The
                vertically oriented panels simulate hanging
                scroll paintings with painted borders imitating
                brocade mounting.
