AN EXTREMELY RARE THREE- ⨒ᫀᐸ٫ ˖൭͂⎙ἅ㤛♄ἕᾠ
TIERED JADE CONG ϝᬝ
LIANGZHU CULTURE, CIRCA 3300-2300 BC 㞖ⵖల⯠⻦卿 ჺ㐟ᙻ㲞ᳰ
The cong is of rounded square cross-section. The exterior is divided
㫕㵓⎊卿଍ヿகᶽⰰ卿ត⣌᳖↚卿଍ݦ⛘㚒⤏ᝳ཭㛑ᔭۘǯℱ㐏⯎༗卿
into three registers by horizontal gouges, each register is incised
ᝳཐ㞔㬪ⰰᜆᙚকㆁⰰཎᙚ㿽ǯ཭㛑ᝳ㘲ݏǯ
with a mask motif to each of the four corners. The masks on the
upper and lower registers are nearly identical with incised eyes ംᆨᆄ㚒ᙹᆨ卿ԋ㧿ഌ஋ເ卿㫐㬷❖㧙卿ເഌ೅⺧卿ݤ೅Ꮲ╖⠢⡿卿⊶
above the mouth with fine cloud-scrolls and below a headdress ᝳ߃ᆄǯ
with two horizontal ridges bordering a band of alternating cloud-
ӳӴݦ⛘ངऑӬ⯎ǯ଍㕇୨㬷ԋ㛑ἃݏ⡵⎏⏜ᦷǯս୨㈍ἃԋ㕻⤇ߎἃ
scrolls and criss-cross pattern. The masks in the central register
Ӳ❥卿✄Ӭ❥ἃᏊވ⎏▵՞㬷⡠卿սݦ㙣߃ᆃ⡠㎜ᇨވ卿ᆃ⡠ӳᝳՆǮ
are more ornate and represent an animal mask with similar mouth
