BUDDHAS lacquer throne surmounted by a triratna, all before an altar table set
19th century with offerings, two Buddhist lions hiding under the seat, a mounted
Distemper on cloth; each with central figure seated in padmasana on Guardian figure standing before the throne amidst a gathering of
a throne of polychrome petals, his hands in bhumisparsa and dhyana teachers, all set on a green-and-blue, Chinese-style mountainscape to
mudra, all before alms bowls variously overflowing with jewels, fruit the background, dotted with lineage figures throughout, starting with
and flowers, one Buddha with suspended triratna above his head, Sakyamuni at the top left corner, framed and glazed. 88cm (34 5/8in) x
another with a train of flowers, all set against a Tibeto-Chinese style 58cm (22 7/8in)
mountainous landscape dotted with excerpts from the Jataka tales,
including scenes of practitioners, warriors and ethereal figures, all £800 - 1,200

Provenance, by repute
Rosenfeldt Manor, near Vordingborg, Denmark. Originally acquired in
China by Oscar O’Neill Oxholm (1889-1949), Danish Ambassador to
China from 1932-1939, and his wife Inge. The thangkas were then
acquired by Lady Countess Wava Armfeldt, lady in waiting to Her
Majesty the Queen of Denmark.
