Dated by inscription to the 34th year of Jiajing, corresponding to 1556
and probably of the period
The seated figure holding a pearl in one hand, the other hand up to
support a staff, the serene face topped with a crown, all raised on a
lotus throne, with a small mythical beast to the fore. 25cm (9 3/4in)

A BRONZE FIGURE OF A SEATED BODHISATTVA
Late Ming Dynasty, 17th century
Modelled holding a ruyi sceptre, wearing loose robes open at the chest
to reveal a jewelled necklace, the head adorned with an openwork
foliate crown, the separate base with two tiers of lotus petals,
reticulated to the front with foliate scrolls, traces of lacquer and gilt
remaining.
