The Compendium of Acupuncture, a fundamental text on acupuncture,
was first compiled in the 16th century by physician Yang Jizhou, of the
Shengji Palace Hospital. Providing clear descriptions of the origin and
theory of acupuncture, often including illustrations and case studies,
the book was re-carved in the 19th year of Kangxi (AD1680), when
another set was printed. The blocks were then re-used again in the
57th year of Kangxi, when the present copies were made.
