         and   decorated   in  Tokio.   Mei-zan   seisu   Ho-yen yegaku.

              Painted   in  blue   upon   a  Cup   of  porcelain  ;  common
         ware,  coated   with brown   glaze.    To-o-yen,   Go-suke   .seisu.

               Painted in blue upon ware similar to the foregoing example.
          Ko-boku CHiKU seki. So-datsu               the name of the maker.
                                          ;
          Koboku chiku   Seki,  a favourite phrase expressive of   a Winter
          scene—a dead tree with the     fallen leaves, and a bamboo with
          rocks around   its graceful stem.   The square character    is the
          seal of the maker.
