A STONE BUDDHIST STELE
CHINA, 6TH-7TH CENTURY
Carved on one side with Maitreya Buddha seated at the center with his legs pendent and
each foot resting on an individual lotus base, flanked by two bodhisattvas standing on lotus
bases, the reverse carved with a pair of standing bodhisattvas flanking the Buddha seated in
dhyanasana at the center of an arched niche, above a frieze of two lions flanking a censer
6 in. (15.2 cm.) high
