Depicting a Nyingma lama cloaked in heavy robes and holding a vajra
and kila, his presentation recollects the appearance of the founder
of the Nyingma school, Guru Padmasambhava who sits in a halo
of clouds above. His reminiscence of Guru Rinpoche evokes his
incarnate role as a tertön, or revealer of dharmic treasures, who are
often depicted with attributes or in the likeness of Padmasambhava.
