Shown facing ahead with wings spread, carved in a simplified form, Published:
the tooth slightly worn and the eyes denoted with sumi (black ink). Katchen, N7, vol.1, p.93, no.K474.
The adult trying to protect two of its struggling offspring with one
outstretched wing, the dark wood slightly worn and the small eyes
inlaid.
Horaku produced a number of netsuke of bats, either singly, resting on
roof tiles or with one of its young, although this appears to be the only
recorded example showing two offspring.
