LU HUI (1851-1920)
Original name Youhui, another name Youkui, used the courtesy
names Lianfu and Juan’an, and the sobriquets Juansou and Pofo’an
zhuren. A native of Wujiang in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, Lu studied
bird- and-flower painting with Liu Deliu and later learned the style of
Dong Qichang from Tao Yisun. Lu Hui met the scholar and collector
Wu Dacheng, and gained much knowledge from viewing Wu’s vast
collection of paintings from past dynasties. He joined Wu’s policy
staff and travelled extensively to Hunan and southern Liaoning.
With his vast experience came improvements to his brushwork in
strength, depth, and deliberate unsophistication. Lu Hui was equally
accomplished in painting landscape, figures, bird-and-flower, and
fruits. At middle age he returned to Suzhou and concentrated on
painting and studying ancient calligraphy for over twenty years.
陸恢 （1851-1920）
原名友恢，一名友奎，字廉夫、狷盫，號狷叟、破佛盫主人，原籍蘇
州吳江。師從劉德六習花果、翎毛，後隨陶詒孫學畫，師法董其昌。
晤吴大澂，縱觀其所藏唐、宋，元、明書畫，藝事大進。旋客吳幕，
數載間得游三湘、遼東名勝。所歴既廣，筆益蒼勁遒麗，古拙幽深。
山水、人物、花鳥、蔬果，無一不能。山水得麓臺蒼茫清逸之餘韻，
花卉則以南田沒骨法為宗，格調秀雅。中年歸蘇州，潜心繪事，考訂
金石文字，並精鑑賞。為吳興龐來臣、武進盛宣懷、平湖葛昌楹父子
審鑑所藏，並協助龐氏編成《虛齋名畫錄》。為怡園畫會、海上題襟
館金石書畫會的成員，與海上諸家交遊唱和頻繁。傳世有《陸廉夫山
水八景》及《陸廉夫先生編年畫冊》等。
