A ‘European subject’ teapot and
cream jug
Late Qianlong
The cylindrical teapot and cover delicately
enamelled with two European scenes
bordered with foliate meanders, traces of gilt
decoration, the body flanked with a straight
spout and ‘rope-twist’ handle; the cream jug
decorated en-suite.
The teapot: 24cm (9 1/2in) wide (3).

The distinctive drum shape and entwined
handle of the present teapot was popular in
the late 18th century and was the standard
vessel shipped by American merchants for
armorial orders. See two similarly formed

and cover with unusual decoration; a powder-
blue and gilt dish; a famille rose and gilt tea
caddy with figural scenes.
The tea caddy: 18cm (7 1/8in) high (6).

Three ‘pseudo-tobacco leaf’
wares and an ‘Augutus Rex’
beaker
19th century
Comprising two dishes, one slightly larger,
and a ‘fairness cup’, gongdaobei, with a
central figure resembling a Daoist sage;
together with a famille rose quatre-lobed cup
after early 18th century Meissen prototype,
AR mark to the base, 18th century.
The trick cup: 7.5cm (2 7/8in) high (4).
