19th/20th century
Formed as a hubiao, the ceremonial column placed outside the walls
of the Forbidden City, with repoussé dragons writhing around the
trunk, flanked with a cloud, all raised on a pedestal, the base stamped
北京萬寶足銀, ‘Beijing Ten Thousand Treasures Pure Silver’.

The flattened ‘Tonkin ware’ container embellished on the lid and base
with chisel worked parcel-gilt cartouches with stylised landscapes and
