arbitration conference, Manfred was lucky enough to be able to see Denis Low’s
astounding snuff bottle collection. To him it was the most impressive collection he
had ever seen and left a long-lasting impression of what collecting of snuff bottles
could be.

Manfred and his wife Susan have been married for 57 years and have two daughters,
Heidi and Kirsten, their images gracing the interiors of two inside-painted bottles
commissioned from the ‘One Bottle Studio’ in Beijing in 1993. Whilst they have
agreed to give the next generation of collector’s the opportunity to buy a myriad
of fine examples from their collection, Manfred and Susan have no desire to part
with these two gems, which will remain in their safe keeping. A bottle which holds
perhaps the most significance and sentimental value for this father of two, is a superb
example by the famous contemporary artist Liu Shouben, based on a painting he
commissioned in 1979 from the Shanghai-based artist Guo Ying, depicting two
chicks reversed by a dedication to his wife Susan. It will also steadfastly remain in the
family (figs 5 & 6).
