A GILT-BRONZE SEATED FIGURE
OF BUDDHA

NORTHERN QI-TANG DYNASTY (AD 550-907),
6TH -7TH CENTURY

Buddha is shown seated in dhyanasana with head inclined slightly forward,
the hands held in variations of vitarkamudra and varadamudra, and wearing
simple, layered robes that fall in folds diagonally across the body and knees
before draping in elegant folds over the edge of the throne. His face is cast
with delicate features set in a serene, contemplative expression.
