A GILT-BRONZE SEATED FIGURE
OF BUDDHA

SUI-TANG DYNASTY (AD 581-907),
6TH-7TH CENTURY

Buddha is shown seated in dhyanasana with right hand held in abhayamudra
and left resting on the left knee, the head is framed by a separate aureole with
openwork foliate center within an outer border of fames that are centered at
the top by a fgure of Amitabha Buddha, and wearing robes that fall in folds
below the legs to partly obscure the openwork foliate support that rises from a
rectangular four-legged stand with open sides. A pierced tab projects from the
back of the head.
