of barrel shape moulded with raised bosses, intricately
painted to the top and centre of the body in iron red and gold
with buddhist lions and brocade balls interrupted by pierced
cash coin motifs, framed by colourful stylised lotus scrolls
reserved against a turquoise ground, the foot encircled by a
lappet band

DECORATED ‘DAJI’ DOUBLE-GOURD

QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
modelled in the form of a beribboned double-gourd vase
raised on an iron-red ruyi stand and surmounted by a gilt
bat-form finial, the upper and lower bulbs painted with two
iron-red medallions enclosing the two characters reading
daji, each roundel encircled by five bats, all reserved against
a rich turquoise ground, wood stand
