A GROUP OF FOUR JADE CARVINGS
The first a jadeite belt buckle formed of two fitted halves adorned in
undercut chilong surrounding a beast-head hook, carved from stone
of bright russet color; the second a thinly sectioned jadeite plaque
incised as an axe surrounded by dragon-form scrolling patterns, the
stone of cloudy hue marked in apple green inclusions; the third a belt
buckle of indented rectangular section displaying a short calligraphic
inscription to the exterior and reversed by a hook and a rectangular
aperture to the reverse, the stone displaying shades of russet and
sea-foam; the fourth a triangular archaistic sword fitting displaying a
chilong on one side and a ground of raised bosses to the reverse, the
stone of russet and gray colors.

A GROUP OF FOUR TOGGLES
The first, a nephrite pebble carved as a ram’s head; the second, a
reticulated jade figural group of a butterfly, a lotus root, seeds and
a profusion of blooming vines, carved from stone of both gray color
and large calcified areas; the third, an agate plaque incised in stone
6080 of predominantly translucent hue to depict a dragon or a carp on
one side reversed by a depiction of the ‘Yu Men’ of Shaanxi auguring
success on the imperial examinations; the fourth, an agate toggle
reticulated to depict a group of double gourds and a three-legged
toad bearing an inscription perhaps reading daji ruyi.
