The design of the present cup is based on Ming dynasty prototypes, such as a Chenghua marked example, excavated from the late
Chenghua stratum of the imperial kilns at Jingdezhen and included in the exhibition A Legacy of Chenghua, The Tsui Museum of
Art, Hong Kong, 1993, cat. no. C95. Yongzheng period cups, with the six-character reign mark inscribed within a double square,
include a pair illustrated in Chinese Porcelain. The S.C. Ko Tianminlou Collection, Hong Kong, 1987, pl. 99. Other examples include
three pairs, the first sold in these rooms, 7th December 1983, lot 376, the second sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 13th November
1990, lot 267, and the third sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 2nd May 1994, lot 212. Qing dynasty cups of this design are more
commonly found with Qianlong seal marks, including a pair offered in these rooms, 18th March 2008, lot 137.
