from the standard palette corresponded to then-fashionable rose pompadour and bleu
céleste, while mock cloisons carried elegant lines of gilding over the vessel apart from
vulnerable knobs and rims. Cloisonné ornament was also an alternative to conven -
tional Renaissance and Rococo decoration, and was treated in the flat, geometric
style that design reformers preferred.
