                                        Stone Stone

        Like     mountains and rocks, the stone is a symbol of    longevity. Pictures given as
        presents to older people often have stones in them. A picture showing a stone or rock
        jutting up out of the sea is usually a representation of the paradise in the Eastern Ocean
        (    islands), of which a poet wrote: ‘Life like the  Mountain  of  the  South  and  good
        fortune like the Ocean of the East.’ The ‘Birthday of the Stone’ (shi) is on the tenth (shi)
