Two similarly shaped snuff bottles, but decorated with scrolls of lingzhi, Provenance
and with six-character Yongzheng marks, are illustrated in Hugh Moss, Crane Gallery, 9 April 1996

The Mary and George Bloch Collection, vol. 6, Hong Kong, 2008, nos. A similar bottle is illustrated in John Gilmore Ford, Chinese Snuff
1370 and 1371. As noted by the authors, those two examples have Bottles: The Edward Choate O’Dell Collection, The Asia House Gallery,
flared mouths not intended for stoppers and were probably converted New York, 1982, cat. no. 125.
into snuff bottles. The present lot however, does not have a flared
mouth. Two slimmer examples with similar melon decoration have sold
at Christie’s, New York, one from the The Meriem Collection, 19 March
2008, lot 269, the other from The Ruth and Carl Barron Collection, 15
March 2017, lot 390.
