                                                                          A FINE AND RARE GILT-BRONZE ENGRAVED
                                                                          WINE CUP
                                                                          TANG DYNASTY
                                                                          of small size, the bowl with horizontal groove just below
                                                                          the slightly everted lip, finely engraved in three zones with
                                                                          birds in flight and perched amidst scrolling, flowering plants,
                                                                          above a short ‘canopy’ engraved with dentate ornament,
                                                                          supported on a spherical-knopped stem and conical foot, the
                                                                          latter engraved with floral meander on a granulated ground
                                                                          matching the body
                                                                          7.3 cm, 2⅞ in.

                                                                          with horsemen and hunting scenes, illustrated by Bo

                                                                          also in gilt bronze, illustrated by Percival Yetts, Catalogue
                                                                          of the Eumorfopoulos Collection, pl. 70 fig. B 314. For silver
                                                                          examples see Gyllensvard, B.M.F.E.A., no. 29, pl. 8d; Jenys
                                                                          and Watson, Chinese Art (1963), pl. 20, an example in the
