          LITERATURE:
 each of these, including the deer, has come to represent long life.   Magic, Art and Order: Jade in Chinese Culture, Palm Springs Desert Museum,
 Deer are also believed to be the only animals that can find the lingzhi   1990, no. 1
 fungus of immortality. In addition, deer may represent Luxing, the God   Nicole De Bisscop, Chinese Jade and Scroll Paintings from the Dongxi
 of Rank and Emolument. The Chinese word for ‘deer’, lu, is a pun for   Collection, Brussels, 1995, p. 85, no. 44.
