A RARE PAIR OF DOUCAI ‘DRAGON AND PHOENIX’ BOWLS
KANGXI SIX-CHARACTER MARKS IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE WITHIN
DOUBLE CIRCLES AND OF THE PERIOD (1662-1722)
Each bowl is decorated to the exterior with two fve-clawed dragons in pursuit
of faming pearls and two phoenix amongst scrolling clouds, all above rocks
rising from cresting waves. The foot rims are encircled with a band of foral
sprays with green and aubergine enamels.

A related doucai ‘dragon and phoenix’ bowl of the same size but with a yellow
ground in the collection of the Shanghai Museum is illustrated in Kangxi
