A rare rhinoceros horn magnolia cup
17th century/18th century
Elegantly carved in the form of a yulan (magnolia) blossom with a crown of secondary flowers
surrounding the central blossom, the network of stems tied up to form the base of the cup,
the horn a rich honey color shading to a darker amber at the base, set into a conforming
wood base.

This is part of a powerful group of vessels carved to utilize the stems of the elegant cup as a
