Li Qiujun (1899-1971)
Eight sketches of Flowers and Fruits, after Shizhuzhai shuhua pu
Eight album leaves, mounted, ink and color on paper; each depicting fruits or flowers based
on the early seventeenth century printed book Shizhuzhai shuhua pu (“A Manual of Calligraphy
and Painting from the Ten Bamboo Studio”), variously signed Li Qiujun (4) or Qiujun (3), one leaf
dated guiyou chun ri (1933, spring) with eight artist’s seals reading Li Qiujun. [8]

Li Qiujun (1899-1971) was a native of Zhejiang province. She was active in Shanghai beginning
in the late 1920s, co-founding painting societies with such artists as Pan Yuliang and He
Xiangning. Li met Zhang Daqian through her older brother, and the two collaborated on a
number of works. Li was known for her landscapes in gongbi and blue-green styles, as well as
for her figure paintings in the Tang dynasty style.
