Compare with a Vijayanagara-period bronze fgure
of Bhairava sold at Christie’s New York, 19 March
2013, lot 230. Images of Bhairavi, the consort
of Shiva in his ascetic form, Dakshinamurti, are
relatively rare. Dakshinamurti, and by extension
Bhairavi, are typically South Indian concepts of
Shiva, and represent wisdom and self-attainment.
