A BRONZE FIGURE OF THE INFANT BUDDHA
Ming Dynasty
The figure cast with stoic expression, standing with
his left hand pointing to the sky and the right hand
to the ground, clad in a simple dhoti tied around the
waist, attached wood stand.

A LARGE GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA
SHAKYAMUNI
17th century
Finely cast with eyes downcast in meditative
expression, seated in dhyanasana, with the
right hand reaching down towards the ground in
bhumisparsa mudra, the left hand held gently in the
lap in dhyana mudra, dressed in long flowing robes
detailed with draping folds and incised floral hems,
loosely open at the bare chest, with a prominent
usnisha formed with tightly coiled curls.

gilt-bronze figures of Buddha Shakyamuni, Ming
dynasty, the first, dated 16th century, was sold at
Sotheby’s Hong Kong, 8 April 2014, lot 3060; and
the second, 16th/17th century, was sold at Christie’s
Hong Kong, 30 November 2016, lot 3239.
